When I found out I was pregnant, one of the first things I thought about was how much of our money was going to get pooped on, literally. Diapers are not cheap, & you go through so many each day. Being the money conscience person I am, I played with the idea of using cloth diapers. But I always ended up with the excuse that 'I didn't have time for cloth diapers.'
Then, my friend Amanda @ My World in a Nutshell started using them on her daughter & LOVED them. I still wasn't convinced I could handle the cloth. I mean, keeping the thing you baby poops on? Eww! I'd much rather throw it away! But the more & more I thought about it, the more & more I wanted to try it. However, I wasn't ready to make the commitment to it, & the prices of cloth diapers seemed so high if I wasn't going to stick with it, so I again let the idea go.
When my son hit 5 months & the huge stock of diapers from his baby shower is started to get smaller & smaller, I got more serious about the idea of swapping to cloth. Yes that's right, we got so many diapers at his baby shower I still haven't had to buy any. Well, I finally convinced myself that I needed to try them. If I like them, it will save us tons of money because I would use them on baby #2, 3, 4...lets stop there. Anyway, I started doing research. That's when I stumbled across The Changing Table.
They offered exactly what I was looking for. A way to try them without fully committing! They offer a 30 Day Cloth Diaper Trial. With this trial, you can try cloth diapers for 30 days for only $15, yes I said FIFTEEN dollars! Well, if you want to get technical, you pay $150 up front as a deposit & get $135 back at the end of your trial. For me, it was a no brainer. I was going to try cloth diapers. I got in touch with them & now have 10 diapers to try on Eli, without having to pay anything more than $15.
These are the diapers I got:
1 AppleCheeks
1 Best Bottoms Cover w/2 inserts
1 BumGenius 4.0 Snaps w/insert
1 BumGenius 4.0 Aplix w/insert
1 BumGenius Elemental AIO
1 FuzziBunz One Size
1 GroVia AIO
1 GroVia Shell Snaps w/2 inserts
1 Happy Heinys One Size Snaps w/insert
1 Rumparooz w/insert
I bought separately:
1 pkg of Rice Paper Liners (so he can poop & I can just pull it out & flush)
1 pkg of Rock in Green Detergent to keep these diapers nice & clean!
So here we are, today is Day 1 of my 30 Day Cloth Diaper Trial. So far, everything is going great. I started Eli out in the Best Bottoms diaper, mainly because it had cute little giraffes on it. He seems to love how soft they are on his little tushy.
He's had one wet & poopy diaper & it was so easy! Especially with the rice paper liners & a great friend who has cloth diaper experience (Thanks Amanda!). I think I just may really like these. But I may change my mind on laundry day, considering how much I hate laundry. But so far I REALLY like them. Luke even asked me to show him how to change the diapers. I was shocked. He had told me he wasn't going to mess with them.
I made Eli model his new diaper. I hope you enjoy these!

OMG Cherie, Eli looks so cute in fluff!!! I hope you continue to love CDing because it's so fun!!
How cute! I never realized that there were disposable liners inside--that would have changed my willingness to cloth diaper totally!
I'll be interested in seeing how this works out for you. I've always been curious but figured cloth was too much work.

Cloth diapers are awesome. Fortunately, I had enough diapers to get us through the entire first year from my shower so I never really got to try them. I am planning on it whenever we go for number two though - it makes so much sense!
