After months of wanting to start a blog, I finally have! Here is a little background.
On October 27, 2010 at 7am I went to the hospital to be induced. They hooked up to all the monitors & I was already having very strong & steady contractions. They started my pitocin drip by 7:30a & by 8:30a my water had broke. After 20-21 hours of labor & 1 hour of pushing, Eli started having complications caused by him being stuck in the birth canal with his head turned sideways. My doctor decided it was no longer safe for me to try to have him naturally & I was taken in for an emergency c-section.
At 5:53a on October 28, 2010 my AMAZING little BOY, Eli William, was born. The first time I saw him I was overwhelmed by so many emotions. He was perfect. 8lbs 6ozs 21in.
We brought him HOME from the hospital on October 30th & it has been a wonderful adventure seeing him grow every day.
The last 3 months & 10 days have flown by. Eli has started doing so many things, I'm amazed by him every day. He first rolled over at 6weeks, although just recently hes started rolling over all the time. He 'talks,' smiles, & laughs all the time. I have a VERY happy baby boy. We were also blessed by a little one who enjoys his sleep just as much as Mommy & Daddy do! Ever since we were allowed to let him sleep through the night (8+ hours!) he has.
We did start out having some trouble, he had jaundice, so we had to take him to the hospital almost every day for his first 10 days of life to get his levels tested. Luckily, they never got high enough for him to need treatment & leveled off. We also had some trouble with him not gaining weight quick enough. It took him 3 weeks to get back to birth weight & is still long & skinny (At 3 months he was only 12lbs 13ozs, but was 25in long).
I've also struggled a LOT with breastfeeding. My supply never got up to where it should have been. I tried everything from Fenugreek to Reglan to pumping every hour (even at night). Nothing worked for me. Occasionally I have a day were I will produce almost enough to keep him full; unfortunately, it only lasts that one day & then I drop way down again. He was exclusively breastfed until he was about 6 weeks old when I started supplementing with a few ounces of formula. When he turned 3 months old I started only breastfeeding him in the morning before work, my lunch break, & the evening (& night if he wakes up). I felt very guilty for making the decision not to pump at work anymore, but I'm so glad I made that decision now. I am much happier now that I don't have to stress about how much I am producing! I just keep telling myself SOME breastmilk is better than NONE!

I think that covers some of the basics since he was born.

All of that sounds familiar! My son had high billirubin counts in the beginning and I actually starved him the first couple days of his life without even knowing it! Poor little guy. I ended up having to supplement with bottles, which I hated! And really, that negates trying to get your own milk up also. Try oatmeal. Some of my friends said oatmeal helps, if you're still nursing. There is also a tea out there. I can't remember what it is, but it also has fenugreek and who know's what else in it. And really, just nurse and pump as much as possible to get your body to produce more. I was fine with my daughter and nursed her for 14 months without ever giving her a bottle. LOL. I'm sorry! I must have missed the last sentence! And you're right, any amount of breastmilk is good. :)

Thanks Michelle! Once I decided to start letting him have formula when I was at work, my body decided it could make a little more :) He gets 2 formula bottles each day (so between 10 & 15ozs), but I'm able to nurse him in the morning, on my lunch break, & all evening! I'm surprised my supply is staying up! Now that I'm not pumping at work for a couple hours & stressing out because I know it isn't enough I think I can keep nursing him for a long time!
Following you now :)
I love your post. Some breastmilk is better than none. Keep up the good work. I do both but Muffin has always gotten more Brstmlk than formula thru it all. She is 1yr old...and now she she seems to nurse even more.
